Leo, The Lion, is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac.

In Greek mythology the Nemean Lion was a beast that terrorised people for years. Many had tried and failed to kill the lion as all weapons were useless against him. Hercules was sent to kill the beast by Hera. As the illegitimate son of Zeus the goddess Hera hated Hercules and hoped he would fail and die. However Hercules succeeded in killing the Nemean Lion and in his honor Zeus set the form of the lion into the night sky.

Leo is described as masculine, positive extroverted sign.

As a fire sign Leo exhibits righteousness. They are also courageous, honest and virtuous. As one of four fixed signs they show stability, determination, depth and persistence.

Being ruled by The Sun, one of the principle luminaries, Leos often share traits with The Sun god of Apollo, showing feelings of power and superiority. The Sun is the most important of the celestial bodies.

Leo is compatible with other fire signs, Aries, Sagittarius and other Leos.

The colour of Leo is the gold of The Sun. July and August birthstones are Ruby and Peridot.
