Virgo - The Virgin - August 23rd - September 23rd
Virgo, The Virgin, is the sixth sign of the constellation of the Zodiac. Virgo ends officially at the moment of the autumnal equinox when The Sun crosses the equator heading south and triggering the northern hemisphere winter and southern hemisphere summer.
In Greek mythology the Virgin Goddess of justice was Astraia. She lived amongst mankind during the Golden Age of antiquity but the lawlessness of the Bronze Age drove her away. Zeus placed her in the sky as the constellation Virgo. Virgo is identified closely with Nike, the goddess of victory, and Nemesis, the goddess of rightful indignation. In Roman mythology Virgo is said to hold the scales of Libra.
Virgo is described as a feminine negative, introverted sign.
As an earth sign, Virgo shows propriety and is conventional, proper and fitting, as well as being well mannered and polite. Being a mutable sign Virgo shows adaptability and expansion.
Virgo is ruled by The Planet Mercury, The Winged Messenger, but also has influences from the minor planet Ceres.
Virgo compatible with other earth signs, Capricorn, Taurus, Cancer and Scorpio, and with other mutable signs, Gemini, Sagittarius as well as other Virgos.
Virgo colours are pale greens and yellows. The birthstones of August and September are peridot and sapphire.
