Aquarius - The Water Carrier - January 21st - February 19th

Aquarius is the eleventh astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation Aquarius or The Water Carrier.

In Greek mythology, Aquarius is identified with Ganymede, a youth whom Zeus fell in love with. Zeus in the guise of an eagle represented by the constellation Aquilla, carried Ganymede to Mount Olympus to be a cup bearer to the gods. Aquarius was the pourer of waters during the mythical great flood, via the constellation or Eridanus the river.

In antiquity Aquarius was ruled by the planet Saturn, though since its discovery, Uranus has been considered as the ruler. Aquarians therefore have influences from both planets, and believe in social order, conformity and practicality, as well as having unconventional ideas and strong need for discovery.

Aquarius is a fixed air sign, with traits of virtue of knowledge, and is also described as a masculine, positive, extroverted sign. Air signs are said to be well rounded, informed, and are good communicators. Fixed signs associated with stabilisation, determination, depth and persistence. The Aquarian is a friendly, humanitarian sign.

Aquarius is compatible with Gemini, Libra, Aries, Virgo, Sagittarius and other Aquarius. They all share an airy demeanor.

The colour associated with Aquarius is blue. The January and February birthstones are Garnet and Amethyst.
