Scorpio, The Scorpion, also known as Scorpius is the eighth sign of the Zodiac.

In Greek mythology the hunter Orion bragged to the goddess Artemis and her mother Leto that he would kill every animal on earth. Artemis and Leto decided to send a scorpion to test Orion. Orion and the scorpion fought, but the scorpion killed Orion with its sting. The battle caught the attention of Zeus, who placed the scorpion in the sky as a tribute and, at the request of Artemis, also placed Orion as a reminder for everyone to curb their excessive pride.

Scorpio is known as a feminine, negative, introverted sign.

Scorpio is a water sign, being emotionally reserved and yet intense and sensitive. Scorpio often displays opposite traits simultaneously. It is also one of four fixed signs and shows stabilisation, determination, depth and persistence.

Scorpio was ruled by Mars in antiquity but since its discovery Pluto is the modern ruler of Scorpio. This is one of the reasons Scorpio shows such contradictory traits. Mars is the planet of war and aggression and impulsiveness, whereas Pluto is the planet of renewal and transformation.

Scorpio is compatible with other water signs Cancer and Pisces, and with the earth signs Capricorn, Taurus and sometimes Virgo.

Scorpio colours are deep red and black. October and November birthstones are opal, tourmaline, yellow topaz, citrine.
